Johansen in talks to sign new contract
Norwegian midfielder Stefan Johansen is set to sign a new contract at Celtic as negotiations between the club and his agent progress.
According to his agent Tore Pedersen, the 24-year-old is set to sign a new deal, but no agreement has been reached as yet.
Since his £2 million transfer in January 2014 from Stromsgodest to Celtic, the midfielder has excelled at the club, winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award last season.
This season, however, has been a very different story due to his poor form – which he has put down to a back injury that limited him in games.
The Daily Express have reported that both Celtic and his agent Pedersen have sat down to discuss a new contract.
Johansen’s agent said:
Celtic will extend Stefan’s contract, although we have not yet reached an agreement.
We have not concluded the negotiations. We are in dialogue, and we will take it from there.
Stefan was absolutely outstanding last year. People expect him to go on the rampage and do whatever he wants all the time.
But he is getting tougher treatment from opponents in Scotland this season. He is getting a lot more attention.
His contract expires in the summer of 2017 and both parties will be hoping to tie up a long-term deal for the Hoops midfielder.
He will be in action for Norway this week as he hopes to help them qualify for next summer’s European Championships in France. In order to reach the group stages of the competition, Johansen’s national side will have to beat Hungary in the play-off round.
