Leigh Griffiths scored his 50th Celtic goal and made history as the Hoops coasted to victory at Tannadice.
Griffiths bagged the opening goal after a defensive mistake from Dundee United which he took advantage of, becoming the fastest Celtic player to score 50 goals.
The striker got on the end of Tom Rogic’s pass and slid the ball through Eiji Kawashima’s legs for the opening goal after 21 minutes.
Jozo Simunovic doubled Celtic lead six minutes later after heading home from Kris Commons brilliant free-kick.
A lapse in midfield and defence allowed the home side to stroll through the Hoops and get a goal back on 31 minutes through Simon Murray.
Stuart Armstrong looked lively against his former team and caused lots of problems down the left wing, coming close to scoring on several occasions in the first-half.
Griffiths added a third goal from a counter-attack which Mikael Lustig started down the right wing.
A sublime volley from Commons made it four for Ronny Deila’s men as they cruised through the final 30 minutes of the game.
Craig Gordon 6/10
Could do very little about Dundee Unitedâs goal which carved open the Celtic midfield and defence. Did enough to prevent the home side equalising just before half-time.
Mikael Lustig 7/10
The stand-in captain was fairly quiet to start the game but began getting forward and allowing Commons to drift in field. Put a good cross into the box to Griffiths for the third goal of the game on the counter-attack. Faultless in defence all game.
Efe Ambrose 7.5/10
Solid start to the game and cleared up all the long balls put over the top of the Celtic defence using his pace to get back and thwart any threat. Continued to make important tackles inside the box and played very well.
Jozo Simunovic 7/10
Confident and assured in defence cutting out any potential threat and giving Unitedâs attacking players no time on the ball. Scored his first Celtic goal and Celtic’s second of the game from Commons’ free-kick.
Kieran Tierney 7/10
Overlapped Armstrong well and worked hard down the left wing. Instinctive pass to Griffiths who looked to be onside. Went off injured with a suspected shoulder injury.
Callum McGregor 6/10
Quiet first-half as Johansen dominated the centre of midfield for Celtic. Switched off for the home side’s equaliser. More lively in the second-half and almost scored Celticâs fourth after an intelligent run down the right wing but fired his effort right at the keeper. Fired another effort from the edge of the box just over the crossbar.
Stefan Johansen 6/10
On his 100th appearance for Celtic, the Norwegian started brightly and got stuck in being the main man in midfield. Switched off for the home side’s equaliser. As the game went on he became innocuous as Celtic countered down the wings and tended to avoid the centre of the field.
Kris Commons 8/10
Terrific volleyed goal for Celtic’s fourth in the game and played very well coming off the right wing.
Tom Rogic 6.5/10
Did well for the opening goal to play the ball to Griffiths after a tidy run through the middle. Brilliant footwork at times to leave defenders on the floor or skipping past them. Replaced after 60 minutes in favour of James Forrest.
Stuart Armstrong 7/10
In his first game since suffering a back injury against Hearts, Armstrong started brightly on the left wing against his former team and fired just wide from Tierney’s cross. Great cross but unfortunately no one gambled and ran into the six-yard box. Provided the assist to Commons with a perfectly placed cross and the playmaker did the rest. Replaced by Scott Allan after 68 minutes.
Leigh Griffiths 9/10
Griffiths made history tonight after scoring and became the fastest Celtic player to score 50 goals. His first shot on goal saw him slot the ball home through the legs of the keeper after the defender slipped. Griffiths scored his second of the game from a Celtic counter-attack.
James Forrest 4/10
Replaced Tom Rogic after 60 minutes as Celtic dominated proceedings. Fairly quiet in the game and didn’t do much of note on the wing.
Scott Allan 4/10
Came on for Stuart Armstrong with 21 minutes remaining in the game. With the game already won Celtic took their foot off the gas in terms of attempts on goal but he looked lively once again.
Emilio Izaguirre 3/10
Replaced Tierney who went off with an apparent shoulder injury. Shaky in defence and exposed in behind a few times but fortunately he wasn’t punished.
