Celtic rejected bid for Izaguirre from La Liga side
Celtic rejected a bid for Emilio Izaguirre during the January transfer window according to reports from Honduras.
La Liga side Getafe were interested in the 29-year-old left-back, who has fallen out of favour under Ronny Deila this season due to the emergence of Kieran Tierney.
The Spanish side have been keeping tabs on Celtic’s squad for a while and took fringe striker Stefan Scepovic on loan for the season during the summer transfer window.
Getafe were hoping to secure a deal to strengthen their defence, however, it would have left the Hoops depleted at the position and were therefore unwilling to sell.
Izaguirre currently has 18-months left on his current contract and will either be moved on before that ends or leave when it expires next summer.
Since he joined in 2010, Izaguirre has made 222 appearances in the green and white Hoops, scoring five goals and adding 45 assists.
His exceptional performances when he first arrived led to him being named the SFA Players’ Player of the Year due to his outstanding performances for Celtic.
