With the first group of international matches in the books, here’s a round-up of how each player got on.
Celtic have a total of 33 players heading on international duty, including 18 first-team players and 15 youngsters.
With the European Championships just around the corner, international managers will be preparing their squad for the upcoming tournament in France during the friendly games.
Other managers have the opportunity to prepare for the World Cup qualification and experiment with their squad.
There is also a host of Under-21 players in the squad for their nations European Championship qualifiers.
Many of the first-team players involved will play vital roles in their own teams success and others will be hoping to get a chance to prove themselves for their respective countries for future tournaments.
Here’s a round-up of all the Celtic players on international duty and how they got on.
Tom Rogic
We start with the spectacular as Tom Rogic came off the bench for the final 23 minutes, scoring twice in the 7-0 rout of Tajikistan. Rogic will hope to be involved from the start on March 29th when Australia take on Jordan.
The centre-back put on another classy performance at centre-back for Scotland against the Czech Republic as they held on for a 1-0 away win. He will be joined by Scott Brown, James Forrest, Craig Gordon, Leigh Griffiths, Kieran Tierney, who are all in the squad to face Denmark on March 29th.
Nir Bitton
Although Israel lost 2-0 to Croatia, Nir Bitton had the honour of captaining his country and going up against one of the world’s best midfielders in Luka Modric. Bitton could return to Paradise early as they don’t have another game over the international break.
Emilio Izaguirre
The left-back hasn’t featured for Celtic in two months and played the full 90 minutes against El Salvador as they drew 2-2. They will face each other in the reverse fixture on March 29th.
Efe Ambrose
Nigeria drew 1-1 against Egypt as Efe Ambrose had, well, an Efe Ambrose kind of performance. Let’s just say Nigerian fans were not happy. He was dubbed a headless chicken, he misplaced passes and gave away possession time and time again. However, it was nothing on Godfrey Oboabona, who was supposed to be marking Salah as Ambrose duly followed in playing the offside trap. The two sides will face off again on March 29th.
Stefan Johansen and Mikael Lustig played the full 90 minutes in their games as Norway drew 0-0 with Iceland while Sweden lost 2-1 to Turkey. Erik Sviatchenko didn’t feature for his country. Norway will now face Finland, Sweden will play the Czech Republic and Denmark will face Scotland on March 29th.
U21
Liam Henderson played 78 minutes and Ryan Christie replaced him with 12 minutes remaining as Scotland lost 2-0 to a very talented France side. They face Northern Ireland on March 29th in their other European U21 Championship qualifying game.
Eoghan O’Connell wasn’t included in the 18-man matchday squad for Ireland as they lost 4-1 to Italy. O’Connell will hope to be involved for their fixture against Slovenia on March 28th.
Unsurprisingly Jozo Simunovic wasn’t involved for Croatia as they beat Spain 2-0. They play Estonia on March 28th as Simunovic recovers from knee surgery.
Mikael Lustig did play all 90 minutes for Sweden vs. Turkey.
