Celtic fan and former footballer Trevor Sinclair has hailed the appointment of Brendan Rodgers by the club.

The 43-year-old BBC pundit was thrilled about the news of the Carnlough man’s appointment at the Hoops and received glowing praise after his unveiling on Monday.

Rodgers came within touching distance of a Premier League title in 2014 with his former club Liverpool, only to come up in the closing games of the season.

As quoted on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sinclair said:

I think for me, looking at what he did at Liverpool, especially when they nearly won the league. Tactically, he’s as close to Pep Guardiola in British managers as there is – I think he’s that good.

If he goes up there and gets the recruitment right at Celtic, I think he could achieve phenomenal things.

The glowing praise of Rodgers is likely to go down well with Celtic fans who have been unanimously delighted with the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

Such was the delight at the appointment, over 13,000 fans turned up to show their support for the self-confessed life-long Celtic fan.

Rodgers began his career in management under Tommy Burns after an early retirement and was appointed as the head of youth development at Reading by the Celtic legend.

His job will now be to analyse the squad and see where it can be improved and tightened to suit his style of a small squad, which gives youth players an opportunity to play more regularly for the first-team.

Celtic’s season will begin earlier than all top European sides due to the Champions League qualifying rounds beginning in July.
