Guardiola’s glowing praise of Rodgers
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise onto Brendan Rodgers ahead of their meeting next month.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss hailed the Celtic manager for his work at Liverpool, after taking them within touching distance of a Premier League title.
Celtic and the Premier League side will meet at Paradise at on September 28th on matchday two, with the reverse fixture taking place on December 6th on matchday six.
Speaking to the Mirror about Rodgers, Guardiola said:
I don’t think there is any doubt about Brendan’s quality.
He was closer than anyone in the last 25 years to winning the Premier League at Liverpool and he has a lot of experience.
It is the first time I will go to Glasgow to play and I am so excited to play in Celtic’s stadium.
Neither manager has faced each other in the dugout as managers in their careers, and will face off for the first time in the Battle of Britain tie at Paradise next month.
Guardiola has guided numerous sides to the latter stages of Europe’s elite competition – winning it twice – and will look to take City one step closer than last year after they lost out at the semi-final stage to Real Madrid.
Celtic continued their unbeaten league run and have won 24 consecutive home games following their 4-1 victory over Aberdeen yesterday.
