Wilshere linked with a move to Celtic
Celtic are one of a number of clubs being linked with a move for Jack Wilshere ahead of the transfer window closing tonight.
The 24-year-old Arsenal midfielder is allowed to leave on loan for the season and according to the Telegraph, Celtic are one of at least 20 clubs that have registered an interest in Wilshere.
Brendan Rodgers is thought to be using the lure of Champions League football and the strong likelihood of a league winners medal to try and win over both Wilshere and Arsenal.
Celtic’s main stumbling block will be Wilshere’s £90,000 weekly wage, which most other clubs interested can afford to pay the vast majority of, if not all.
A number of Premier League clubs are interested including favourites Crystal Palace as well as Watford – who would offer him the chance to remain close to his home and young family – with Bournemouth, Roma and Benfica also looking for his services.
Arsene Wenger wants the 24-year-old to get back to his best, but can’t guarantee him regular first-team football following the signing of Granit Xhaka in the summer.
Wilshere has been struggling with injuries for several years now, and has only made 25 appearances in his last two seasons for the Premier League side.
The English midfielder stormed onto the scene in 2010, but hasn’t been able to put a consistent run of form together as he continually battles with ankle and knee injuries.
Rodgers is thought to be looking to get at least one more player in before tonight’s deadline in order to improve the squad for their upcoming Champions League campaign.
