Borussia Monchengladbach’s vice president Rainer Bonhof has identified the danger man in the Celtic squad.

Bonhof, a former World Cup winner and Scotland under-21 manager, highlighted Scott Brown as the player to look out for in Wednesday night’s game at Paradise.

The skipper has been instrumental for the Hoops this season in midfield, and has been the epitome of the improvement under Brendan Rodgers along with fellow Scot, James Forrest.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, the German said:

Everyone knows how good he is. Anyone who has watched him for the last 10 years knows about his capacity as a footballer.

He’s been a terrific player in the past for Celtic but, with all his experience, he’s even more valuable to the first-team now.

When I first saw Scott as a youngster, I always felt he’d be a top player. You could see his power and ability. He had all the skills required but, more importantly, at a young age he could read a match from his position as a No6 in midfield.

You only had to watch him once or twice and you said to yourself: “This is a guy ready for much bigger challenges”.

Brown scored his first league goal of the season in a narrow 1-0 win over Dundee before the previous international break and also added a decisive fifth goal in the first leg of the Champions League playoff back in August.

Rodgers has reinvented the 31-year-old who retired from international football earlier this year, and has allowed him to find another gear to take the game by the scruff of his neck in defence and attack.

Celtic will face the German side Mochengladbach on Wednesday in a crucial Champions League tie for their aspirations of European football beyond Christmas.
