Brown out to rectify his mistakes from last season
Scott Brown is out to rectify his mistakes from last season after admitting he shouldn’t have played in the Cup semi-final meeting with Rangers.
Rodgers’ side thumped the newly promoted side Rangers 5-1, however they beat Celtic on penalties last time the teams met at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
Celtic fell to a 2-0 defeat in midweek to Borussia Monchengladbach but will look to bounce back this weekend and move one step closer to the first piece of silverware available to them this season.
Speaking ahead of the game to the Daily Mail, Brown said:
If someone says to me ‘are you fit to play’ I’m always there to play for anyone.
But looking back, maybe I shouldn’t have. But, at the end of the day, we still had the chances to easily win the game. If we’d scored early doors with a couple of chances it might have been different. Even I managed to get up the park somehow.
No one tried to persuade me against playing. If any player says they are good to go the manager puts faith and trust in you.
What percentage was I fit? I don’t know. It was just aches and pains and coming back too early from injuries and trying to pull through.
Not being 100 per cent fit and playing in Rangers v Celtic games is always hard for anybody. You always say you can get through the one game but you need that proper match fitness, sharpness and training.
The skipper remains undefeated this season walking the team out onto the field in a domestic game, and the 31-year-old will look to continue that run this weekend.
Aberdeen, the Hoops’ main title challengers this season, or Championship side Morton await the winners of the Glasgow Derby in the League Cup final next month.
Celtic will face newly promoted side Rangers this Sunday before two tricky away games at Ross County and Aberdeen and will return to action in the Champions League at the beginning of November against Monchengladbach.
