Brendan Rodgers spoke about the latest addition to his backroom staff at Celtic in Jack Nayler.

Nayler joined the club as Head of Sports Science earlier this month, and will look to give the players an extra edge to last a gruelling season playing as many as 60 games.

He has previously worked at Real Madrid with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale when they won their tenth Champions League trophy, and also worked under Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and PSG.

Celtic will have played 44 games by the time the winter break comes round, and maintaining the level of performance will be a top priority for Rodgers and his team.

As quoted by the Daily Express, the Hoops manager said:

What I’m trying to bring in here is a high level of mentality. When you work at those clubs, you’re coming from a top mentality.

He’s fitted in well here as head of sports science. Fundamentally, he knows how I work.

He did a great presentation on Friday, regarding the amount of games we’ve played. It’s all about sleep, hydration and preparation.

You have to be the best you possibly can as you try to get that extra wee one per cent in the games.

Rodgers worked with Nayler at Chelsea briefly and will now be looking to give an extra edge to Celtic’s play over the next two months.

Over the next 10 days Celtic will play four games starting today in the League Cup semi-final against newly promoted Rangers.

After that Celtic face three consecutive away games to Ross County, Aberdeen and finishing next Tuesday against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League.
