Rodgers reveals Celtic’s January transfer plans
Brendan Rodgers has revealed his intentions for the January transfer window after several conversations with Dermot Desmond.
Celtic are almost certain to be playing Champions League qualifiers in July once again and Rodgers will be looking to have his squad fully prepared for those games having struggled away from home during the qualifiers.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Rodgers said:
When I analyse it and look at it for the summer, we’re thinking about the process of getting in a few players, bedding them in and having them up and running by the time we come back in for our pre-season, so I think it’s a very important window – as long as the right players are available.
That’s the difficult bit, because at that time, sometimes they’re not. If you can do some business, though, it can be advantageous. Again, it’s dependent upon availability – you might see someone you love and he might want to come but his club doesn’t want to sell.
Rodgers will be looking to progress to the latter stages of European competition in the coming years as he assembles a squad capable of recreating some magical night’s at Paradise.
Celtic are in action again next Tuesday against Manchester City in Champions League and will have one final opportunity to test themselves against one of the top sides in Europe.
Pep Guardiola’s side lost 3-1 to top of the table side Chelsea yesterday (Saturday) and will be looking to top the group to get a more favourable draw in the last-16 of the competition.
