O’Connell set for loan spell to Scottish side
Celtic defender Eoghan O’Connell is set for a loan spell away from the club having not featured for the first-team since September.
According to a report from the Scotsman, the Irishman will join Kilmarnock to shore up their defensive problems as they fight for their status in the top flight of Scottish football.
While Celtic’s first-team jetted off to Dubai, O’Connell and fellow defender Efe Ambrose remained in Glasgow – the latter due to work permit issues – while the Irishman will report to Rugby Park on Monday.
O’Connell impressed early on this season, making seven appearances, as Brendan Rodgers dealt with numerous injuries in the squad and looked to have impressed the new boss.
The 21-year-old’s future is in doubt as his contract expires this summer and is unable to break into the current set-up with Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic back from injury and the summer acquisition of Kolo Toure.
The Irishman joined Oldham last season but returned early after sustaining an injury and went to his hometown club Cork City in March.
Since making his first-team debut against Ross County in March 2014, O’Connell has made 12 further appearances for the league champions.
