Celtic set to bid again for Nigerian striker Onyekuru
Celtic have made a move for Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru as they look to add more depth up front.
Brendan Rodgers has made one signing so far this month in 19-year-old Ivorian midfielder Kousssi Eboue, and has now reportedly set his sights on Onyekuru, a forward who currently plays for Belgian top-tier side KAS Eupen.
An initial bid was reportedly rejected as it was below the club’s valuation, but Celtic are now thought to be going back in for the youngster.
The striker, who is also just 19, has bagged 10 goals in 21 appearances for his side so far this season and has been linked with clubs such as RB Leipzig and Fenerbahce.
Onyekuru was quoted by The Scotsman and commented on his proposed move to Glasgow:
A lot of teams have shown interest to sign me – from France, Germany and Turkey. Celtic are interested in me and they have tabled an official bid for me.
There are discussions between the clubs and my agent. I believe everything will be sorted out soon.
It was only just recently when Rodgers spoke of Africa being an untapped market for talented players who could potentially help the Scottish game after the signing of Eboue was confirmed.
The Hoops have played so far this season using two recognised strikers in Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele, with other forward Nadir Ciftci likely to depart the club this month having failed to make a competitive appearance under Rodgers.
Onyekuru would add more depth and attacking options to the squad and could potentially be a promising young talent.
