How Luis Suarez helped Celtic sign Moussa Dembele
Moussa Dembele’s agent has revealed how former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez helped Celtic sign the Frenchman in the summer.
Mamadi Fofana, who was speaking to the Daily Record explained the role the now Barcelona forward and Raheem Sterling played in making the deal happen.
When Brendan Rodgers made it clear that he wanted to bring the forward to Celtic Park, he asked Dembele to speak to the two aforementioned players if he needed any proof of his managerial ability.
Brendan was clear. He explained that Celtic could not pay what some of the other clubs in Europe could pay. He even knew what those other offers were. Brendan knew what was going on.
He said, ‘If you don’t believe me, take my phone, call Luis Suarez and ask him what he thinks about me, call Raheem Sterling. I’ve developed many players and you can be one of those, but it’s up to you.
You will get money in your life, but right now, you are young enough to work and learn and then the big money will follow.
The French striker has been in impeccable form this season as Celtic close in on another Scottish Premiership title in Rodgers’ first year in charge of the club.
Their impressive form this season has largely been down to Dembele who has 27 goals in all competitions to his name this season.
The player was a January transfer target for Premier League leaders Chelsea, but Celtic refused to sell the player during the window.
