Celtic have brought a number of players through the youth ranks in recent years, but how have our former Scottish Youth Cup winners from 2011 progressed?
Back in April 2011, Celtic’s Under-19 side lifted the Cup following a 2-1 extra-time triumph over their Glasgow rivals, Rangers.
Stephen Frail’s men showed plenty of character in seeing off their counterparts on the Hampden Park soil, and much was promised of the young Celtic stars that earned a memorable victory on the day.
The Under-19’s were comprehensive throughout the course of the competition, sweeping aside Dundee, Airdrie United, Stenhousemuir, Livingston in the semi-finals, and then Rangers at the very last hurdle.
However, just where are these once-promising batch of once young players now?
We have taken a look at what Frail’s group of young talent are up to just under six years on from their Scottish Youth Cup triumph:
Nick Feely
Feely was the goalkeeper on the day for the Celtic U19’s, but is now plying his trade out in Australia with Perth Glory.
Lewis Toshney
Toshney did make an appearance for Celtic’s senior side but couldn’t quite make the cut. He’s now at Dundee United.
Kieran Brennan
Brennan hasn’t enjoyed any real progress since that Youth Cup victory, and is currently without a club.
Matty Hughes
Hughes was the captain of the U19’s on the day but has enjoyed no further progress, really. He’s playing for Stalybridge Celtic.
Stephen O'Donnell
O’Donnell enjoyed a successful stint at Partick Thistle after his early days at Celtic and is now playing for Luton Town.
Callum Bagshaw
Bagshaw is another ex-Celtic youth protege that has ended up at Stalybridge Celtic.
Jackson Irvine
Irvine is now playing, and impressing, at Burton Albion after helping Ross County knock Celtic out of the League Cup last season.
Patrik Twardzik
The Czech midfielder is now playing out in his homeland with FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt.
Greig Spence
Spence scored the opener in the final for Celtic, but is now playing with Alloa Athletic.
Filip Twardzik
Patrik’s brother Filip is currently a free agent, having been released from Bolton Wanderers last summer.
Callum McGregor
A rather anomalous feature from the youth side, McGregor is still going strong with Celtic and has made 25 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ men this season.
Robbie Thomson
The goalkeeper signed for Falkirk in the January transfer window.
Liam Gormley
Gormley netted the winner in the final in extra-time, but never broke into the first-team at Celtic. He’s now playing for Cambuslang Rangers.
Bahrudin Atajić
The Swedish striker made a few appearances for Celtic competitively in the 2013/14 season, but is now with Lithuanian side FK Zalgiris.
Marcus Fraser
Fraser did make an appearance for Celtic in 2011, but is now with Ross County.
Islam Feruz
Feruz is out on loan with Swindon Town after failing to impress at a string of clubs and previously admitted he shouldn’t have left Celtic.
