A brilliant strike from Stuart Armstrong was cancelled out by a late goal from Clint Hill in the Glasgow Derby.
Celtic started the game slow and struggled to get any tempo or consistency in their play.
Craig Gordon came to Celtic’s rescue on the 24th minute as Martin Waghorn raced through on goal, and the ‘keeper who recently signed a new deal until 2020 got a foot to the shot on goal.
Armstrong gave Celtic the lead on 35 minutes with a brilliant left-footed strike into the bottom left corner for his 10th league goal of the season.
The midfielder hit the post from a free-kick five minutes earlier and scored his third goal in the four Glasgow Derby meetings this season.
Gordon was called upon again to deny Waghorn from close range on 71 minutes as Erik Sviatchenko failed to cover the ground in time to prevent the striker from getting a shot on goal.
Leigh Griffiths should have had a penalty after he was brought down by Clint Hill inside the box.
Here are the player ratings from today’s game.
Craig Gordon 7.5/10
Great save with his foot from Waghorn’s shot and made another fantastic save from Waghorn’s close range shot in the second half.
Mikael Lustig 6/10
Perfectly weighted pass to Dembele who couldn’t get it under control. Solid defensively and supported Forrest well in attack.
Dedryck Boyata 5/10
Misread the ball through to Waghorn and should’ve done better. Slowed the ball out from the back as he did last weekend.
Erik Sviatchenko 4/10
Really poor start to the game misplacing four passes in the opening 10 minutes. Won his aerial battles and improved in the second half. Woeful defending to get back and stop Waghorn from getting a shot on goal.
Kieran Tierney 7.5/10
Decent start to the game going forward and solid in defence winning the ball back. Good effort on goal which went just over the bar. Nutmegged Tavernier and got a decent cross into the box with Celtic players lining up for a shot on goal.
Scott Brown 8/10
Did well to hold his position allowing Lustig to follow Wallace on the overlap. Battled hard in midfield and came out on top in most his battles. Began to dominate in midfield and control it alongside Armstrong.
Nir Bitton 4/10
Poor start to the game in midfield giving away silly fouls. Didn’t find space to receive the ball from the defence which slowed the Celtic attack. Wasn’t effective as an anchor in front of the Celtic defence either as the ball got in behind too many times. Replaced at half-time with an injury.
Stuart Armstrong 8.5/10
Ok start to the game but wasn’t involved as much as he should’ve been. Good free-kick which was clipped onto the post by the ‘keeper. Brilliant finish from Forrest’s pass on the edge of the box. Two good efforts on goal well saved in the second half. Grew in confidence and began dominating in midfield until he went off for Griffiths.
James Forrest 7/10
Got down the line and got the ball into a dangerous area on the edge of the box. Good cutback to Armstrong for the opening goal. Put Rangers on the back foot all afternoon causing problems down the right wing.
Scott Sinclair 6/10
Hogged the touchline and looked to get down the line and cut inside to cause problems. Brilliant reverse pass to Armstrong. Quiet in the second half.
Moussa Dembele 5/10
Didn’t get many chances in the opening 30 minutes. Poor first touch from Lustig’s through ball. Worked hard off the ball but never got a clear cut chance on goal. Good run a the defence and went close with a left footed shot.
Callum McGregor 5.5/10
Came on for the injured Bitton at half-time. Made a good bursting run at the defence which opened up Rangers. decent outing in midfield and injected some pace into the game at the start of the second half.
Patrick Roberts N/A
Replaced Forrest with 22 minutes remaining in the game.
Leigh Griffiths N/A
Came on for Armstrong with 17 minutes remaining. Brilliant pass to Dembele.
