Former Chelsea man backs Scott Sinclair for an England call up
Former Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa midfielder Joe Cole has backed his former teammate Scott Sinclair to earn an England call-up.
Cole, who played alongside Sinclair during his time at both Chelsea and Aston Villa, told the Daily Record that he always believed the winger would one day play for England.
“When I first watched Scott at Chelsea, I thought he would play for England one day. And I stick by that,” Cole explained. “If I was Scott, I certainly wouldn’t be ruling it out.”
Sinclair is yet to make a senior appearance for the English national side, despite being heavily involved at youth level.
He featured for the Three Lions from U17s right through until U21s but has never made the set up to senior level.
The former Villa winger did, however, feature for Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.
Sinclair has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career at Celtic, where he won the domestic treble and scored 21 league goals for the Hoops.
When Gareth Southgate took charge of the Three Lions he promised chances to fringe players and those who haven’t been given a chance, but Sinclair is yet to be called up.
