Celtic have made their next move in their pursuit to sign highly rated Red Star Belgrade winger Srdjan Plavsic.

Recently appointed chief scout Lee Congerton will travel to Poland to watch the youngster in action on Friday according to the Daily Mail.

Plavsic’s contract expires next summer and Celtic will send their chief scout to watch him in action against Spain at the Euro U21 Championships.

The £1.5 million rated right winger has been nicknamed ‘Atomic Ant’ for his small nature and could replace Patrick Roberts, who will unlikely return to the club after an 18-month loan spell from Manchester City.

In 33 league appearances last season, Plavsic scored eight goals and registered four assists.

He can also play on the left wing or in the attacking midfield role behind the striker – versatility which Rodgers has always been fond of this season in his team selection.

Plavsic has expressed his desire to leave Serbia this summer for a new challenge and potentially competing for a domestic treble and reaching the Champions League with the Hoops could tempt the 21-year-old.

Rodgers is looking to make progress and help Celtic become a force in European football again and will continue to improve his squad over the summer after Jonny Hayes made the switch from Aberdeen to Glasgow last week.
