The agent of Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee has confirmed that Celtic are interested in signing his client.

Mike Makaab of ProSport International confirmed to South African outlet IOL that the Scottish champions have been watching his player in recent weeks.

He said:

Yes, there is interest from Celtic. Last week they sent a scout to monitor him in a friendly match in Cape Town. I can’t say more than that.

Furthermore, Mich d’Avray, Ajax Cape Town’s sporting director confirmed that Celtic are interested in the South African international, but as it stands, they have yet to make an official offer.

Yes, we are aware of the interest from Celtic. The club is still waiting for the official offer. I can also confirm that they did send a scout to watch Rivaldo.

D’Avray went on to explain that if a suitable bid does come in, Ajax would be willing to accept it as they do not want to stop him making a move to Europe.

We don’t intend to stand in his way. If the offer is presented on the table, I have no doubt that the club will listen to it. At the moment, there is no concrete offer that I know of.

Fellow South African sides Mamelodi Sundowns and the Orlando Pirates are also interested in the player but if Celtic do come in for him, he’s likely to push for a move to Scotland.
