Celtic restored their three point lead at the top of the league table with a dominant performance as Callum McGregor sealed the points late on with a cool finish.
The away side dominated with a youthful side similar to the one that put five past Kilmarnock in the League Cup just over a week ago with the average age of the side just 23.
Forrest opened the scoring after 40 minutes following some terrific play by Tom Rogic.
The Aussie playmaker skipped past his man with some wonderful footwork before cutting it back to the makeshift striker for his third goal of the season, and his first league goal of the campaign.
And Forrest went close again two minutes into the second half as he shimmied the ball onto his right foot to make space but fired his shot well over the crossbar.
Calvin Miller came close to doubling Celtic’s lead with 21 minutes remaining but could only get a toe to the ball after some brilliant link up play.
Here are the player ratings from today’s game.
Craig Gordon 6/10
Untroubled in the game.
Anthony Ralston 7/10
Good clearing header at the back post. Left too much space in behind but got let off as the Kilmarnock player was flagged for offside. Should’ve done better from Miller’s cross to him at the back post.
Kristoffer Ajer 7.5/10
Under pressure a few times from crosses into the box but dealt with them well and cleared the danger.
Kieran Tierney 7/10
Composed play in the heart of the defence and was rarely troubled. Brilliant range of passing and got Miller on the attack early.
Calvin Miller 8/10
Tidy link up play with Miller down the left wing and always went direct at his man showing his experience as a winger taking on the defender delivering a good ball into the box. Constant threat down the left side all afternoon. Also has the ability to cut inside but his shot on goal went well over the bar. Stabbed a shot on goal after linking up with Forrest and could’ve doubled Celtic’s lead. Forced into a mistake conceding a corner which near proved costly.
Scott Brown 7/10
Experienced head in the team controlling proceedings from his anchoring position in midfield. Almost got on the end of Armstrong’s corner. Dominant in midfield once again. Super ball through to Griffiths in behind the defence.
Stuart Armstrong 7.5/10
Looked much sharper and had his best game of the season, Clear to see signing a new deal has taken a weight off his shoulders. Made countless runs behind the defence from midfield making it very difficult to stop. Good defensive play as well to negate any threat from counter attacks.
Tom Rogic 7.5/10
Classy as ever in possession but was limited somewhat without and out and out striker to feed off. Terrific play to set up Forrest for the opening goal of the game. Blazed a shot from distance well over the bar on his 100th appearance for the club. Another brilliant run to tee up McGregor for the second goal.
Callum McGregor 7/10
Some terrific touches and passing on display once again. Played a lovely ball through to Rogic who just needed to keep running into the box to reach it. Set piece delivery was quite poor. Doubled Celtic’s lead with two minutes remaining.
Kundai Benyu 7/10
Showed glimpses of what he can do once again and definitely has the ability and understanding to become a very good player at the club as he develops his game. Good work rate to do his defensive duties as well.
James Forrest 7/10
Had the opening shot of the game on goal which went well wide of the target. Found space in the box and side footed the ball into the net for the opening goal. Good hold up play leading the line to bring others into play. Shimmied that ball to make space but fired his right footed shot over the bar.
Leigh Griffiths 6/10
Came on for Forrest with 21 minutes left in the game. Looked sharp and wanted to make an impact with the short period he was on the field. Well timed run in behind the defence.
Nir Bitton 5/10
Replaced Tierney with 20 minutes remaining in the game. Poor marking from a corner which gave Kilmarnock a good chance. Sloppy passing out from the back as well almost proved costly. Injured late on.
