Rodgers backs Kieran Tierney to captain Celtic one day
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he believes young defender Kieran Tierney can go on to captain the Scottish champions in the future, according to a report on the Telegraph.
Tierney is set to make his 100th appearance for the club this weekend against Ross County.
The 20-year-old also recently tied down his long-term future at the club by signing a new six-year contract, which ended speculation of him leaving the club for a big Premier League side.
Tierney has also captained the Scotland side and the signs for the future are all looking positive for the youngster, with Rodgers hoping that he will continue to mature as the years go by.
He can be a great leader for Scotland and I think he will be a captain here at Celtic one day. He is developing and maturing on and off the field. I heard him speak at the end of the season at the Scottish Football Writers’ Association dinner and thought he spoke so well. It is nice to see young players come on in all aspects.
Tierney received a huge confidence boost yesterday when he was named the Scottish Professional Football Association Player of the Month for October.
Tierney managed to get his name on the scoresheet against nearest title rivals Aberdeen during the month and also put in impressive performances against German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
