Moussa Dembele’s goal inside a minute was cancelled out as Unai Emery’s French giants PSG powered their way to a 7-1 win.
Celtic fans where on cloud nine after Dembele fired the Hoops ahead from a low-driven corner by Olivier Ntcham found the striker who struck it past Areola.
It didn’t take long for PSG to equalise however, as Brazilian winger Neymar placed it past Gordon nine minutes in.
The most expensive player on the planet got his second nineteen minutes later after a superb one-two with Marco Verratti on the edge of the box.
Uruguayan Edinson Cavani then got involved with an easy tap-in finish. It was clear from then that the floodgates had well and truly opened.
Kylian Mbappe then capitalised on Celtic’s sloppy defending from a set-piece to make it 4-1 before half-time.
That wasn’t the end of the misery for the Scottish champions as Cavani, Verratti and Dani Alves all piled on the humiliation.
The Hoops still go into the final game of Group B in a dominant position to progress to the Europa League knockout stages after Christmas.
Here are our player ratings from tonight’s game.
Craig Gordon 4/10
Couldn’t do much about PSG’s goals given the football they played at times. Distribution was poor again. Made a good save from an Mbappé effort on the 40th minute that prevented the French side from going 5-1 up.
Mikael Lustig 5/10
Couldn’t reach Neymar before he struck the past Gordon for their first goal. Picked up an injury eleven minutes in and was subbed off.
Dedryck Boyata 4/10
Made some decent interceptions early on but was quite sloppy throughout. Nearly gifted PSG a fifth at the start of the second-half after making a mistake. Expected a more composed performance.
Jozo Simunovic 4/10
First game back from injury. Booked 34 minutes in for a foul on Mbappé which eventually led to PSG netting their fourth. Never seemed like he was into it.
Kieran Tierney 6.5/10
It was always going to be a tough task dealing with Alves and Mbappé but he coped well. Intercepted passes that could’ve led to trouble and always looked for a man. Got a number of crosses into the PSG penalty area but most of the time no-one was looking for it.
Scott Brown 6.5/10
A sloppy pass intended for Ntcham found itself in PSG’s hands, leading to their first goal. Made a superb ball across to Dembele in the second-half which should’ve saw the Frenchman net his second of the game. PSG’s firepower in midfield was too much for him to handle at times but he put in a shift.
Olivier Ntcham 6/10
Hit the low-driven corner to Dembele to put the Hoops ahead. Advanced play frequently and put in a solid performance. Almost got a goal himself 20 minutes in but his shot flew just wide. Subbed off after 68 minutes.
James Forrest 6.5/10
Looked lively out on the wing and looked to create chances when possible. Won possession back and showed glimpses of quality though with Kurzawa and Neymar to deal with it was a tough shift for the winger.
Tom Rogic 5.5/10
Looked for space to progress but his overall contribution was underwhelming.
Callum McGregor 6/10
Got involved and stuck-in. Came close to assisting Dembele 15 minutes in but it came to nothing.
Moussa Dembele 7/10
A cool and composed finish from Ntcham’s corner put his side ahead within a minute. Cut-in from the left-wing a number of times, looking like the only threat on occasion.
Nir Bitton 4/10
Came on for the injured Lustig after eleven minutes. Was sloppy and took a while to get into the swing of things but was better second-half.
