Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Celtic are looking into the possibility of signing Odsonne Edouard on a permanent deal in the summer.
The teenager, who is on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, bagged a hat-trick at the weekend as Celtic defeated Motherwell 5-1 and as reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers was delighted with his performance.
I felt we needed more movement in front of Motherwell and in behind them so we decided to go with him and it was as good a display as you’ll see from a young player at that age. He had everything.
Rodgers went on to speak about how the Frenchman can improve before admitting that he could look to sign him permanently.
He now needs to be a real killer in the box like he showed for his first goal. For his second he finished it really well and the third is great anticipation from him. He has really settled in now after having to bide his time. You can see the quality he has and there’s the possibility to sign him at the end of the loan.
With deadly duo Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths ahead of him in the pecking order. Edouardhas had to wait patiently for his chance to shine in the Celtic first team and he took full advantage of a rare start at the weekend.
Reports in France suggest that Rodgers had already discussed the possibility of turning Edouard’s loan into a permanent move and with it looking highly unlikely that he’ll break into the PSG first-team any time soon, the 19-year-old could welcome the opportunity to join the Scottish champions.
Celtic have shown a willingness to invest in young talent from around Europe in the recent past, so a move to keep Edouard permanenlty certainly fits in with the club’s ethos of buying and developing young talented players.
