Calvin Miller reveals why Rodgers kept him at the club in January
Celtic youngster Calvin Miller has revealed exactly what manager Brendan Rodgers said to him when he came close to leaving the club in January.
As reported by the Daily Record, Miller, who was speaking after only his second start for the club, expressed his delight to be able to feature for the senior side.
With Kieran Tierney holding down the left-back berth in the first-team game time has been hard to come by for the youngster.
While Miller maintains that Tierney is an inspiration to him and someone to look up to, it is the Scottish international that has kept him out of the Hoops’ side.
It’s difficult when you have someone like Kieran in front of you because he has done really well. I was playing a year above myself so I was in the same age group as him and we went to school together.
St Johnstone tried and failed with a loan bid for the youngster during the January window, but Rodgers opted to keep the player closer to the first-team.
Injuries across the rest of the squad meant that Miller remained a Celtic player beyond the January window.
I was aware they wanted me at Christmas time. There is a big squad here, a lot of players, so I was going to be going out on loan.
But we got a few injuries so the gaffer told me he wanted me to stay closer to the squad.
He just told me to work hard and that’s how I got my chance today because I have been doing that.
