Scott Brown wants Celtic to show the spirit of Tommy Burns
Scott Brown has said that he wants to see the Celtic team that he leads out in St Petersburg show the same passion and spirit that the Tommy Burns used to exude, as per the Evening Times.
The skipper was rekindling memories of his debut season in Glasgow, when the Hoops played Spartak Moscow over two legs, which ended up in a penalty shootout victory.
Artur Boruc saved a crucial penalty to send the Scottish giants through, and as the Celtic squad gathered to celebrate, Burns famously jumped on top of the pile of players in sheer delight.
Brown said:
The last time we played a Russian team – against Spartak – it was one of the best. It was us winning on penalties and Tommy jumping on top of us in the celebrations was something special. If we can get to the last 16 this year it would be fantastic for the club.
Celtic play Zenit tonight, taking a 1-0 lead to Russia. It will be a tough game, but Brown is confident that the team he will lead out has enough to progress.
