Simunovic turns down international call to focus on Celtic
Celtic centre-half Jozo Simouovic has turned down the chance to represent his country during the upcoming international break so he can focus on improving his form at Celtic.
As reported by The Daily Record, the former Croatia man has chosen not to play for Bosnia as they face Bulgaria and Sweden next week, just months after he switched his national allegiance.
The move will be a pleasant surprise to Brendan Rodgers who will see many of his squad travel with their respective countries as the build up to the World Cup this summer continues.
Simunovic decided to switch countries and represent Bosnia after he grew frustrated with the lack of opportunities in the Croatian squad, but Bosnia coach Robert Prosinecki has confirmed that the defender will have to wait to make his debut despite being asked to play.
The 23-year-old was seen as one of Celtic’s best defenders but, like many others in the Celtic team, has seen a dip in form this season, culminating in a red card against Rangers in the 3-2 victory last Sunday.
An own-goal in Celtic’s final group game of the Champions League against Anderlecht also reflected how the Croat has struggled this term.
However, the Celtic fans will certainly appreciate the sacrifices made by Simunovic, especially if it leads to a turnaround in form.
