Celtic target Simon Mignolet admits he could leave Liverpool this summer
Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet is a reported target for Celtic and it looks like he will be avialable this summer as he has said that he will ‘absolutely not’ spend another season as second choice goalkeeper at Anfield.
The Belgian stopper is remaining professional, however, speaking glowingly about his teammates and his current club.
The 30 year old was pressed by Belgian media for answers about the situation with him and Karius, speaking to Belgian Newspaper HLN, as translated by Sport Witness, Mignolet said:
I had several conversations with the coach, but I would rather not release the contents. I had a reasonably good season, apart from the mistake I made against Arsenal, I cannot blame myself for anything.
At the beginning of this season Mignolet was first choice goalkeeper for Premier League fixtures, whilst Karius was given his game time in the Champions League, however, the situation has not reversed for the Belgian international to now play in the European run.
In football, not everything always makes sense, sometimes such things are not so easy to understand, but in the end you have to respect the coach’s decisions, however difficult they are.
Would you like to see Mignolet join Celtic?
Yes
No
When asked if he could continue as reserve choice for another season, Mignolet responded:
Absolutely not, this is really nothing for me, it has already been too long. I’m much more nervous on the bench than on the pitch, I want to be able to contribute something.
