A few players seem to be moving on from Celtic, I’ll talk about how they’ve performed for Celtic and the impact their departure would have on the team.

Anthony Stokes appears to want a move away from the club as he now seems to be surplus to requirements, with the arrival of Leigh Griffiths and more recently, Nadir Ciftci. It looks like the Irishman won’t get any game time so I think it’s in both parties’ interests to move on. Stokes has served the club very well over five seasons, arriving from Hibs for around one million pounds, considering he made 191 appearances with 76 goals, it was an absolute bargain. There seems to be interest from quite a lot of clubs including Sheffield Wednesday and Hull so I would expect a fee in excess of 1 million pounds. I wish Stokes well in his future endeavors as he has been a great player for Celtic and would be a great addition to the teams mentioned. So overall, this is a transfer we do not have to worry about, we have better quality in that position this year.

Now for a name that might not sound familiar to some Celtic fans, Derk Boerrigter. Arriving from Ajax last year for 1.75 million, I was quite excited for this signing. I did the usual Youtube search of the player and he looked good, bare in mind that Amido Balde looked like a beast on youtube too…Boerrigter has made 26 appearances for Celtic with only one goal, there really doesn’t seem to be a place in the side for him anymore as we have invested in much better and younger talent. Boerrigter hasn’t shown the quality that he displayed at Ajax and the Dutchman has a year left on his contract, so I doubt he would stay at a club where he gets no playing time, it’s whether any other clubs are interested in him before his contract expires. His departure would have no impact on the current team as I think we would be looking to offload him regardless.

Now I’ll move onto the transfer that every is talking about, Virgil Van Dijk. We bought him from FC Groningen in 2013 for 2.1 million and haven’t looked back since. Seemingly as soon as he arrived he has performed brilliantly, showing great maturity and leadership of the backline, earning plenty of man of the match accolades. Van Dijk’s great defensive abilities combined with his attacking prowess have attracted quite a bit of attention; when he started taking free-kicks and scoring them, I knew he was truly world-class, and at such a young age. The teams said to be interested are Southampton and Everton with Southampton leading the chase with a rumoured £9-million bid for the defender. My view on this transfer is that losing him will be a big blow to the team, he has been the bedrock of our defence so we could become quite shaky at the back. Especially with Lustig not recovering from injury anytime soon. However, I understand why he would move on, and if it isn’t this season, it would definitely be next season. I think Van Dijk will flourish in the Premier League, I just hope that we can find a suitable placement, there is over 2 weeks left in the transfer window, so if Van Dijk leaves, I would really hope we invest good money in another centre-back.
I would personally fly over from Canada to drive efe ambrose and izzy to the airport
amido balde looked awful on youtube. and you think we should invest money in a centre back if virgil leaves. thanks for that.
I would like to think Virgil would stay for this season ,that would give us plenty of time to find a suitable replacement because the defence looks very weak to me
