Celtic have opened talks with Dinamo Zagreb over the sale of centre-back Jozo Simunovic, according to the DailyMail.
The 21-year-old is reportedly at the top of the list of potential replacements for Virgil Van Dijk, who is wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Southampton and Everton.
It is believed that the Celtic Park chief executive, Peter Lawwell has visited Zagreb for formal negotiations with the Croatian side.
Reports in Croatia claim an offer worth in excess of £3.5 million was discussed during the trip, but that Dinamo president Zdravko Mamic is seeking a minimum of £4 million up front for the high touted defender.
Simunovic was tracked by Bayern Munich and Lyon last season and is regarded as one of his country’s rising stars.
Although it remains to be seen whether Celtic would still pursue him if they can retain the services of the Dutchman Van Dijk. The Hoops defender will not be sold by the club until they learn their European fate in the coming weeks against Malmo.
Interesting stuff. Sounds like Pistol Pete is serious travelling out there. I was hoping to see Denayer back though! Maybe we could have both?!
