Mikael Lustig is familiar with opposition from his home country and the Scandinavian region. The Swedish and Celtic right-back spoke ahead of Celtic’s clash with Malmo at Celtic Park tomorrow night as reported by Celtic official twitter account.
The 28-year-old will be hoping Celtic can return to the Champions League group stages this season, after last year’s disappointment against Maribor.
Celtic overcame Azerbaijan side Qarabag in the last round, showing solidity and grit in the second leg to keep Qarabag at bay and advance to the penultimate round of qualifying for this year’s Champions League group stage.
Lustig is hoping that Celtic can be on the front foot at home tomorrow evening against the Swedish Champions.
Malmo are quite a new team. When you do well in Sweden you’re always going to lose a few players, but they have brought some in.
They like to play positive, attacking football so it should be two good games. Here at Celtic Park we should be favourites. Both teams have Norwegian managers and like to play football on the ground, get the full-backs forward & play positive football.
Malmo struggled a bit at the beginning of the season but they look stronger now so it will be tough.
We have been solid in Europe so far & played very well in defence against Qarabag. Confidence is good now so I feel we are ready.
All the players and fans and everyone around the club want the Champions League. We are going to make sure we don’t miss out this time.
We have become a better team since last year and were close to winning the treble.
Lustig’s fellow countryman Markus Rosenberg will miss the first-leg after picking up three yellow cards in previous rounds of qualifying.
When Marcus came to Malmo, he showed he is a quality player. He is their captain and has been around Europe.
It’s a big bonus for us but they have good players coming to take his place.
