Celtic’s late attempts to land a Premier League striker failed in the closing stages of the transfer window on Tuesday night.
Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher was said to be keen on the move up north to reignite his form and play in the Europa League for Celtic however Sunderland blocked the move.
That’s according to BBC Scotland reporter Jane Lewis:
BBC Scotland has learned that #Celtic tried to sign Steven Fletcher on loan. Attempt came late on transfer deadline night.

The Black Cats reasoning for doing so is most likely down to a disagreement over what percentage of the 28-year-olds wages Celtic would pay.
Fletcher is on the fringes of the Sunderland squad and the move to sign Italian striker Fabio Borini, whom they signed on a season-long loan in 2013 only put the Scot further down the pecking order at Sunderland.
Having moved from Scottish football in 2009 after making 156 appearance for Hibernian and scoring 43 goals, Fletcher has had an unimpressive spell at Burnley and Sunderland, apart from his first season at the Tyne and wear side.
