Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic followed up his terrific goal against St Johnstone by bagging a brace for the national team as Australia cruised to a 5-0 win over Bangladesh in their World Cup 2018 Qualifier.
Rogic, who has impressed in recent weeks for Celtic, put in a star-studded display as he netted twice in the first half to keep the Aussies on course for qualification for Russia 2018.
The 22-year-old doubled the Socceroos advantage in the first 10 minutes when he fired home a left-footed effort that squirmed through a host of bodies in the Bangladesh penalty area.
His second goal for his country came after 20 minutes, as he struck first-time from a cut-back and found the net via a deflection to put Australia 3-0 up.
An impressive 5-0 demolition made it two wins out of two for the Aussies in group B of the Asia qualifiers, with their next fixture coming up on Tuesday when they travel to Tajikistan.
And Hoops midfielder Rogic will have done himself no harm in being selected for the clash after his impressive two-goal performance stole the show against Bangladesh.
The performance was yet another step forward for the youngster’s recent renaissance as he looks to force his way back into the national side after failing to make the cut for the World Cup squad last year due to injury.
Rogic’s showing was enough for him to get a standing ovation after being subbed for ex-Celt Jackson Irvine with 15 minutes remaining, and he also drew praise from Australian media for his fine performance in what could be the beginning of a prolonged run in the Socceroos first-team.
With a big game against Aberdeen on the horizon, Rogic will want to follow-up his Bangladesh performance with another stand-out showing against Tajikistan as he looks to force his way into first-team contention yet again at Celtic Park for the difficult trip to Pittodrie next weekend.
