While first team names such as Nadir Ciftci, Scott Allan, Anthony Stokes and Callum McGregor lined out for Celtic’s development squad, it was a young Bhoy who stole the headlines.
Aidan Nesbitt is only 18-years-old but is already making a name for himself in the Hoops youth and development squads.
The Celtic youngster was on the score sheet once again tonight against Dundee in a 2-1 victory at Greenock. The young Scot scored the second of Celtic two goals after losing an early goal and McGregor’s equaliser for Celtic to maintain the development squads unbeaten start to the season.
Nesbitt made a name for himself after netting a hat-trick in a crushing 5-2 win over Rangers in the Scottish Youth Cup final at Hampden Park back in May.
His latest goal for the development squad leaves him with three goals in four games for the Hoops side, an impressive record at just 18 years of age.
Whether Deila was watching on or took note of the Bhoys recent performances remains to be seen, but he is certainly another one vying for a place in Deila’s team.
The Norwegian has already given starts to other youngsters in Kieran Tierney and Eoghan O’Connell and Nesbitt could be next on Ronny’s horizon for a first team opportunity.
Tommy McIntyre, head of the professional academy, spoke after the game, as reported by the club’s official website.
He’s always had talent. He was out for a period of time and he’s come back stronger and has been a fantastic player for us.
You can see what he gives you and I thought he was fantastic tonight and deservedly scored the winning goal.
I thought he took the game by the scruff of the neck at times and he wasn’t the only one. A lot of the young ones did really well and guys like Nesbitt and Kieran Tierney were outstanding.
