Celtic are familiar with Irish talent and the latest one on the block is 16-year-old Matthew Shevlin.
Scouts have watched the Ballymena United striker but the Hoops will have to move quickly to get his signature.
According to the Ballymena Times, Shevlin is also wanted by Championship side Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace. The youngster is on his way to the Premier League side for a one-week trial to showcase his ability.
The pacey striker has already scored four times this season for the Sky Blues and impressed those in attendance at Saturday’s 6-1 win over Cliftonville.
Ballymena manager Glenn Ferguson believes Shevlin could go all the way and follow the footsteps of other Irish starts to make the move across the water.
If a young player has a knack of scoring goals and he also has a good work ethic, he can go to the top.
What we like about him is the fact he never gives defenders a minute’s peace and he puts them under pressure.
Celtic are used to finding Irish talent and bringing them through the academy, as they did with Aiden McGeady and most recently Eoghan O’Connell, who is currently on loan at Oldham Athletic.
