Celtic conceded another goal from a set piece, but you could argue this time it was simply down to the quality of the ball from Schone.
Either way, Celtic got a deserved point. Ajax had a disappointing night going forward apart from their first goal. Celtic’s defence dealt with just about everything put into the box and coped with a young Ajax team.
A rifled shot from Bitton gave Celtic an early lead but it was cancelled out by an outrageous bit of play from Ajax that was finished off by Fischer. Celtic retook the lead just before the half through the head of Lustig. A tricky delivery from Schone cleared the defensive line left Celtic ‘keeper Craig Gordon unsighted and in no mans land.
Nevertheless, a promising start to the Europa League and here are some of the things that we found in the game.
Thought we could have handled the free kick a lot better….defence MUST hold a higher line & give the keeper a chance. Effort was excellent, still lacking footballwise giving the ball away far too easily.
