Celtic manager Ronny Deila told the club’s official website that his team are only going to get better as the season goes on, after watching his troops thrash Dundee 6-0 at Celtic Park.
The Hoops squad have bounced back admirably from their 2-1 defeat to Pittodrie last week as they followed up their impressive 2-2 draw at Ajax with the demolition of Paul Hartley’s Dees.
The result meant that Celtic remained five points behind Aberdeen, however, Deila believes that his side have more in them as they attempt to regain top spot in the Scottish Premiership table.
We have worked a lot to find reasons for last week’s defeat and to get over it and move on and get back to the level we were at, and get even better. I think the last two performances have been good and there is a lot to build on.
Goals from Tom Rogic, Scott Brown, Leigh Griffiths, Nadir Ciftci and two from Emilio Izaguirre sent Dundee back to Dens Park knowing they had been outclassed in a game that really could have gone into double-figures.
Izaguirre also had a chance to get his first ever hat-trick as he stepped up to take a penalty to make it 4-0 midway into the second half, however, the Honduran blazed his effort well over the crossbar.
Deila took to praising his left-back for what was an exceptional performance following his red card disappointment in Ajax; but the Celtic manager did admit the Honduras international won’t be getting the opportunity to his any more penalties in the future.
I’ve not seen many worse penalties! But there were so much pressure on him, with the whole stadium chanting for him and he had to wait a while to take it and he as thinking too much. He can come forward from crosses, but he’ll have to stay back in the future if we get a penalty.
Fans noticed throughout the game that former West Ham striker Carlton Cole was watching the match from the stands as rumours circulated that the Englishman was set to sign for the club.
And Deila confirmed that the striker will take part in his squad’s training this week.
He was here to watch the game and get to know us, to see the city and see the club and we will have talks with him and see him in training, and we’ll see if it’s something that’s going to happen or not
