Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata has vowed to perform against Fenerbahce and win over the Hoops fans, starting on Thursday.
The centre-back has had a rough time since joining Celtic, after his career got off to a very good start as he provided the crucial goal to send Celtic to the play-offs of the Champions League.
He is also hoping to get into the Belgium national team for the final two games in the Euro 2016 qualifying matches. Marc Wilmots selected him for the previous international break, but he never made an appearance.
The 24-year-old will be hoping to change that and have an impact in the Andorra and Israel games, where he may well face Celtic midfielder, Nir Bitton.
Speaking to the media earlier on at Lennoxtown after unveiling a £60,00 cheque donated by Celtic fans to aid the refugee crisis in Europe and as quoted by Sky Sports, Boyata said:
Thursday is a really big game with Celtic and one I want to play well in so I can make a statement.
Boyata is currently behind the likes of Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen but is hoping some good performances in Europe will help him break into the team.
My performances in our European matches at Celtic will be really important to me making the international team because the Belgian squad is full of potential players and I don’t think it is easy to get into the team.
He also added joining Celtic was a no brainer because of the opportunity the club are giving his to prove his worth having failed to solidify a place in the Manchester City team.
For me, coming here was about getting a lot of games. I’ve maybe played more here already than I have in the last three years.
