Celtic owner Dermot Desmond believes one day that there will be a British Premier League, with Celtic joining the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.
The Hoops man has many close contacts within the Premier League and despite their resistance to their idea it’s something Desmond has strong opinions about.
With the current monopoly of Celtic winning the league and their former main rivals club now wallowing in the second tier of Scottish football, the Irish businessman sees Celtic linking up with some of the teams south of the border in a new British Premiership league.
As quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times, the 65-year-old said:
I’m taking a 10-year view, what we see in the English Premiership today I don’t think will be around in 10 years time, I think there will be a British Premiership.
His reasoning behind this idea is due to the fact that other clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid negotiate their own football contracts because they are in a superior position.
As far as developing other leagues, I think technology is going to change and evolve how football is sold in the future.
Before it was a monopoly with either terrestrial TV or satellite TV, now everybody has the ability to broadcast their results and performances.
In the future I think there will be different types of negotiations between teams and leagues that will evolve into more competitive leagues in the British Isles.
Desmond presumes that clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool can all follow suit and negotiate their own contracts, and then they will institute a change in the structure of the current league system in the United Kingdom.
without doubt, as a marking concept, and that’s what football clubs are, we would be viable.Instead of Dundee, Kilmarnock and the likes, a full Celtic park entertaining Arsenal,Man U Chelsea and the great Man City .nae problem.
oops sorry the big clubs got twatted in the Champions league 🙂
