Celtic midfielder Kris Commons isn’t shy of confidence or quality, and the playmaker hopes that pays off for him.
The 2014 Player of the Year still wants to be the biggest name in Scottish football, not just at Celtic.
Commons has fought his way back into the squad after missing pre-season and beginning of the Champions League qualifiers with a broken toe, which put him down the pecking order in the number 10 role.
Since getting back to full fitness, Deila has turned to him for goals and assists, and the Scottish international has delivered.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s game against Fenerbahce as quoted by the Daily Record, Commons told the media:
I get paid to play football and I want to play. If I am not fit then fine, I will hold my hands up.
But if I am fit and healthy I have a lot to offer the team and I want to play in every game.
I still want to be not only Celtic’s top player but still the big name in Scottish football.
At 32, some will be looking at him and waiting for the decline that usually comes with age. However, Commons doesn’t quite see it like that.
People think that when you get to this sort of age you start to step back and think about coaching roles but things like that are not on my agenda.
Reflecting on his time on the sidelines with a broken to start the season and last week’s result, Commons will be hoping for more of the same but looking to take all three points, due to it being a home game.
It was a good feeling to start in Amsterdam and I tell the manger I want to play three games a week.
I am now in a much better place and to get the nod against Ajax in such a big match and play a part in both goals was a confidence boost for the manager and me too.
