Ronny Deila was left kicking himself after Efe Ambrose handed a goal just before half-time and was slow to react to the eventual equalising header.
Efe has been reliable in the last number of games, avoiding his calamitous errors in defence that have cost Celtic so dearly in the past. Tonight though, he showed the side of his game that has seen him get plenty of ridicule from Celtic fans.
Celtic were in complete control after taking the lead through a Leigh Griffiths goal from close range at the second attempt. The Hoops doubled their lead when Forrest went past two Fenerbahce players before delivering to Commons who finished expertly into the top corner.
Although the Nigerian centre-back had yet another moment to forget as a weak header back to ‘keeper Craig Gordon was pounced on by Fernandao.
The Fenerbahce striker scored again early in the second-half after getting the jump on Efe Ambrose at the front post who switched off.
Speaking after the game, as quoted by Sky Sports, Deila lamented Ambrose’s focus in the game.
When you are defending you need to keep concentration for 90 minutes and that is the biggest challenge Efe has.
He plays 88 minutes very good but he sometimes makes some easy mistakes and today was one of them. As a defender, you have to keep concentration for 90 minutes.
Celtic sit second in Group A level on points with Ajax and two points behind leaders Molde after tonight’s results. Their next fixture sees Deila’s men travel to Norway to face Molde on October 22nd before the return fixture on November 5th at Celtic Park.
