Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has revealed that he played through injuries at the beginning of the season before succumbing to a back injury.
Armstrong missed over a month of action for Celtic and also missed out on the opportunity to represent his country during September’s international break.
The 23-year-old hadn’t played since August 25th after a series of niggling injuries and a back injury forced him to spend a month on the sidelines.
Speaking to STV about his recovery and getting back to fitness, Armstrong shed some light on his early season injuries.
It’s been a bit of a frustrating start to the season.
I’ve had a few niggly ones (injuries) at the start, it all got a bit too much and my back just gave in.
There were a couple of games when it was bothering me and I tried to play on but we came to the decision that I was better off resting it and making sure that I came back 100%.
The timing of this current international break has also given Armstrong the chance to regain his fitness after a brief appearance against Fenerbahce last Thursday.
[The international break] is a great time for me to get some fitness back, get back training and have the weekend to recover, come back fresh on Monday.
It needed to recover and it took longer than I was hoping, but it seems to have recovered now and I’m just focusing on getting my fitness back.*
Now the Hoops player will be hoping to get back to full fitness and break into the Celtic team for their crucial Europa League group stage games over the coming months.
This season Armstrong has made 9 appearances, scoring twice against Inverness CT and registering one assist against Stjarnan.
