Celtic scout highly rated Denmark player

Scouts from Celtic were reportedly in attendance for France’s game against Denmark on Sunday watching several Danish international players including, Erik Sviatchenko, Yussuf Poulsen and Pione Sisto.

The scouts watched on as France beat Denmark 2-1 in a friendly. Two early goals from Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud gave Denmark no chance in the game, but a stunning strike from Sviatchenko reduced the deficit the one late in the game.

It’s not the first time they have been spotted overseas and they have been very busy this season since the transfer window shut, visiting a host of clubs in various countries such as Portugal, Norway and Belgium.

According to Scouts in Attendance on Twitter, the main players of interest ply their trade at Danish club Midtjylland, with Poulsen, Sisto and goalscorer Sviatchenko the names mentioned.

The most likely candidate of the three on Celtic’s radar would be centre-back Sviatchenko. Poulsen is 21 and a highly rated prospect but is probably out of reach for Celtic, with a move down south more likely. Whilst Sisto is an interesting prospect at 20-years-old, the Hoops have plenty of wingers and attacking midfielders unless Deila sees something that would improve the team.

Celtic were linked with a move early in the summer by the Express, who say he is valued at £1.5 million.

Back in June, his agent Allan Bak Jensen spoke of the interest from the Hoops for the Dane.

There’s a lot of interest in Erik and I’ve seen all the reports in the Danish media mentioning Celtic. We know all about the Scottish league. For me, it’s a good league and Celtic is a great club within that.

His performances this season could affect that price tag come January or next summer. The 24-year-old is six foot tall and is contracted with Midtjylland until the summer of 2017.

Since joining Midtjylland in 2010, the defender has made 107 appearances, scoring nine goals and has earned the captain’s armband for his leadership on the field. Denmark have also called on his services and made his debut in March this year against the United States and he has made three further appearances since then.

Sviatchenko is also playing in the Europa league this season for the Danish side, and put out Southampton in the playoff round for the place in the competition.

So far, the club are unbeaten in the group stages, winning both their games against Club Brugge and Legia Warsaw.
