Neil Lennon is great Celt in his own right, having made 214 appearances for the Hoops before becoming the Celtic manager, when he enjoyed a fruitful spell on and off the pitch in the east end of Glasgow.
During his reign, Lennon had a big job at hand to overturn the mess at the club following the Tony Mowbray era. This involved replacing some of the dead wood in the dressing room and replacing them with his own players. With Celtic’s brilliant worldwide scouting system, they recruited players that made a big impact in Glasgow and in the fans hearts before being sold for hefty fees.
Players like Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama, who were part of the famous Hoops side that beat Barcelona, were sold to Southampton for a combined fee of £22 million. Lennon also offloaded Ki Sung-Yeung to Swansea for the excess of £6 million and Gary Hooper was then sold for £5.5 million to Norwich. And wherever there is success, there is failure, so we take a look at the not so magnificent seven signings while Neil Lennon was in charge.
