Yes, you read the headline correctly. According to the BBC, it cost more to go to Celtic games than it does to watch Barcelona or Bayern Munich, two of Europe’s elite clubs.
Celtic fans who pay the cheapest season ticket(£337) will get you decent value for money and one goal is worth £5.74. A quick calculation said I spent £995 on Celtic or I paid 0.06367% of Nadir Ciftci’s transfer fee. We could go to see U2 with 27 friends for that amount! But the shocking figures for me is that the cheapest Barcelona season ticket is £73.88, that’s only £23.88 more expensive than a Kids’ Celtic season ticket. Now that’s what I call I call being ripped off.
To further compound Celtic fans misery, we are trounced by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. A season ticket from Bayern cost £104.48, that’s roughly around £200 pound more expensive than Celtics and just over £6 a game. The Celtic fans are ripped off in the Celtic match ticket section, Bayern’s matchday tickets are just a staggering £11.19, but it’s fantastic to see and brilliant value for money.
Now I love watching Celtic, it’s a hobby for me and I love going to see the Bhoys play with my grandad, but this further emphasises that Scottish clubs need to come together to lower prices. Because it’s not just Celtic that have this issue. I mean it cost more to see Stirling Albion that Barcelona, like seriously!
So let’s stop ripping fans off and get a fair price for all.
