Former Celt to run for FIFA presidency

Amidst all the debacle at FIFA, one former Celtic player is considering standing as a candidate in the upcoming FIFA presidential election.

Ramon Vega who spent six months at Celtic could put himself forward as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election.

The news was broke by Richard Conway on Twitter who tweeted:

FIFA is currently in a mess with the scandal around corruption, brown envelopes and of course, Sepp Blatter. With a new president set to take over, the former Hoops centre-back is putting himself in the fray for the presidential race.

The presidential election is set to take place in February and will see the end of Blatter’s 17-year tenure as president of FIFA.

Ramon Vega who was on loan at Celtic from late 2000 until 2001 helped Celtic win a domestic treble under Martin O’Neill. Vega previously rejected a move to Glasgow from Tottenham but was an important player for the Hoops as he netted four times including a brace against Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup.

In his 26 appearances for the club, the Swiss international helped secure three trophies for Martin O’Neill in his first season in charge.
