Tyler Blackett enjoying the learning curve at Celtic

Manchester United loanee Tyler Blackett is enjoying his time at Celtic, even after it got off to a rough start.

The defender was part of the Celtic team that lost 2-1 at Pittodrie to Aberdeen when Celtic were in a ‘crisis’. On his debut, Blackett filled in at left-back for the Hoops but struggled in the game and ducked down from a set piece for the Dons second goal.

Now, the 21-year-old is building up his confidence and playing in a more familiar role in the centre of defence with Jozo Simunovic still out injured.

Blackett is used to expectations, having played for Manchester United, and knows they are just a high in Glasgow, the Daily Record reports.

It does help that I have come from Manchester United but everything is different at every club. You have to understand it and get used to it.

My debut was a harsh early lesson. It was something I have to get used to about life in Scotland and Glasgow itself.

I’m comfortable in central defence. I played there all last season. I’ve played left-back previously but I played at centre-back all of last season and have more experience there.

In his most recent appearance against Motherwell, the England under-21 international looked much more comfortable in the centre of defence alongside Dedryck Boyata.

Blackett passed the ball well and cut out every attack leaving Motherwell with just one shot on target on Saturday.

Against Motherwell the whole defence and team played well. We all tried to do our best.

We have had a good weeks training. Everyone has come back fit after the international break and we all just wanted to have a good game.

And now we’re top of the league, we definitely want to stay there. That’s what we’re aiming for and what we have been aiming for since the start of the season.

Consistency has also been a problem for Deila this year, with injuries and suspensions preventing him from getting a settled back four, and Blackett says when that happens, results and performances can only improve.

It’s difficult when we have not had a settled back four. We need time to get used to each other and how each other plays. Once we get that I’m sure the results and performances will improve.
