Former Celtic player Pierre van Hooijdonk has branded Robin van Persie an “a**hole” as the ongoing feud between the two Dutchmen continues.
It all began before last summer’s World Cup when van Hooijdonk suggested that van Persie should be left at home for the Netherlands campaign in Brazil.
The former Hoops striker played under Tommy Burns and scored 44 goals in 92 appearances and also made 46 appearances for his national team, scoring 14 goals in a 10-year period.
What was Persie’s reply to his comments?
According to Goal, the Fenerbahce striker wasn’t too happy with his comments last year.
He accused van Hooijdonk of “creating problems” and he should “stick to playing golf”.
However the 45-year-old wasn’t too impressed with those comments and told Dutch TV show Derksen:
Obviously he has more problems with me than I with him.
I may have been too soft on him, so people could not say I wanted to take revenge on him when I reacted back then.
I don’t know what his problem is. This says more about him than about me, but I did think for a second: you a*******.
The story has gone full circle now as van Persie now plays for Fenerbahce, who are in Celtic’s group this year in the Europa League.
He struggled against the Hoops at Paradise earlier this month, and has scored just five goals in 15 appearances this season for the Istanbul side.
Celtic travel to Istanbul on December 10th for their final, and potentially decisive, Group A fixture.
