James Forrest has opened talks with Celtic over a new contract and is willing to commit his long-term future to the champions.
Forrest currently has just over 18-months left on his current deal, and Ronny Deila will be keen to get him to put pen to paper and secure his services for the foreseeable future.
Injuries have hampered the 24-year-old’s career, but he has rediscovered his best form this season and after his most recent injury kept him out for a few weeks, he replied with a goal on Saturday against Aberdeen.
His goal helped Celtic move six points clear at the top of the table, after Hearts leap-frogged the Dons into second place with a win of their own.
He has also broken back into the fray for Scotland, although they failed to qualify for Euro 2016 next summer, and will be hoping to make the 2018 World Cup.
As quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times, Forrest said:
We are talking. I want to stay at Celtic. Everything you do every day is enjoyable and I want to stay here. A lot of the boys feel the same because it’s such a big club.
I think I have a year and two months left and I am pretty confident it can be sorted. As I say, it’s a big club and you don’t get much better than the European nights here.
Obviously, I’m still at Celtic and it’s a great club, a big club. We are in Europe and it’s a great place to be.
The winger could play a key role in helping Celtic get some sort of revenge for their 3-1 last month to Molde. That game kicks off at 6pm this Thursday at Paradise.
