After 22 minutes into his first game in three months, Charlie Mulgrew walked down the tunnel with yet another injury against Ajax.
The 29-year-old’s decision to leave following the second goal stunned many fans watching the game leading to a backlash across social media. He himself took to social media app Instagram after the game to confirm why he left the field of play.
I got the original injury against Aberdeen with three to four minutes to go, stayed on and made the injury worse. Tonight I was running back from the corner and felt something go again.
I wouldn’t have been able to even jog about the park without making things worse. I’ve played through knocks and injuries many times for Celtic. But until you’ve torn a tendon and realise what it feels like and how playing can be career threatening then you don’t know.Looking back, maybe I should’ve sat in the dugout, but my head was gone. I’d worked hard to get back and I am devastated to be out again – especially after last year’s tendon injury in my hamstring which kept me out for six months.”
The latest injury does little to help Mulgrew as he is now ruled out for another two months with a recurring hamstring injury as per the Glasgow Evening Times.
It’s the same injury which kept him out of action for six months last season, and led to the emergence or Nir Bitton as a mainstay midfielder for Celtic.

Ronny Deila already has to factor in the loss of Scott Brown, who is set to miss up to three months with a knee injury.
It does however give players such as Scott Allan and Callum McGregor a chance to impress and solidify their place in the team.
But the Norwegian will look to strengthen in January and add leaders to the squad in order to help the youngsters in the team, as he alluded to after Brown’s injury was confirmed.
I think it is very important now in January that we look for players who have experience.
We have a lot of talent, but you need leaders or parents to the players to get them to grow.
