Deila vows Celtic will get it right next year

Celtic earned a draw in Istanbul as they bowed out of Europe for another season, but Ronny Deila is already planning for next season’s campaign to take the Hoops back to the Champions League.

The Hoops fell to a Lazor Markovic goal before the break after some dodgy goalkeeping, that allowed the winger to pounce. Mid-way through the second half, Fenerbahce midfielder Diego was shown a straight red, for a kick out at Stefan Johansen.

Substitute Kris Commons, got the Hoops equaliser which was by far their best move of the match. In the end, the game petered out and Celtic couldn’t further capitalise on the man advantage.

The result, of course, leaves Celtic bottom of the group, but speaking after the match, Ronny Deila looked at the many positives from the game.

We met a very good team & it was a very good performance. To get something from Fenerbahce is tough. We had a lot of players with not much experience in Europe so it’s a good performance.

The back four defended well, but we can be better on the ball and play passes forward instead of sideways and backwards. These are things we have to work on. Overall a good performance and result.

Celtic now return to domestic action on Sunday, as they face St Johnstone in Perth. The Hoops are still on track for a domestic treble but already Deila is looking ahead to next season’s European campaign.

We know what we want and know what we need, and we will do everything to get that right for next year.
